When does MULR recruit?

MULR recruits new blog writers, staff writers, copy editors, and research editors at the beginning of the fall and winter semesters.

Who does MULR recruit?

We look for talented writers and editors of any undergraduate year at Michigan. We do not require previous experience with long-form legal writing to join MULR.

What is the time commitment?

MULR staff are required to attend weekly hour long meetings for training, professional development, social events and other club processes. MULR staff are expected to work at least one hour per week individually and are required to collaborate outside meetings.

What do staff writers do?

Our staff writers pitch topics of their choice, and our executive editing team determines which topics are approved for research. Writers produce outlines and drafts while working closely with a staff copy editor and research editor to revise their piece for publication.

What do blog writers do?

Our blog writers will write one short-form legal article per month to be published on our website. This position is an excellent introduction to legal writing in a more familiar format to most writers. Blog writers will receive feedback from our staff blog editors and senior blog editor.

What do research editors do?

Research editors are responsible for editing assigned pieces for research, argumentation, analysis, and sourcing. Research editors are supervised by our Executive Research Editor and collaborate closely with our copy editors and staff writers.

What do blog editors do?

Blog editors are responsible for editing all blog pieces. Blog editors should expect to revise multiple short form piece per month. Our blog editors will work closely with the senior blog editor to ensure that all articles are published in a timely manner.

What do copy editors do?

Copy editors are responsible for editing staff writer manuscripts for citations, grammar, word choice, style, layout, typography, and other publication aesthetics. Copy editors are managed by our Executive Copy Editor and work with our research editors and staff writers.
